　　About the Breakfast

　　英式早餐以其丰盛而让人印象深刻。在今日的英国，breakfast，尤其是最具有代表性的full breakfast早就已经脱离了原本的早餐概念，在更广的层面上代表了一种独特的英国生活方式。

　　一份“标准”的英式早餐，都有点什么呢？

　　Traditional full English breakfast includes bacon, fried, poached or scrambled eggs, fried or grilled tomatoes, fried mushrooms, fried bread or toast with butter, and sausages. Black pudding, baked beans, bubble and squeak and hash browns are often also included.

　　一般来说传统的英式早餐包含有培根，蛋，土豆，蘑菇，面包，黄油，香肠，黑布丁，豆子，马铃薯和洋白菜还有薯饼也会包含其中。是不是超级丰盛呢？

　　In the North Midlands, fried or grilled oatcakes sometimes replace fried bread. The food is traditionally served with a mug of tea; more recently coffee is an alternative.

　　别忘了英国是一个多联邦国家，因此即使是同样的早餐，在不同的地区也会呈现出不同的特点，比如在Midlands地区，烤面包有时候就会被燕麦饼而代替，传统的英式早餐需要配茶，不过近年来已经被咖啡逐渐取代啦~说起茶，英式茶并非单一品种的红茶，而是各种红茶的混合，取不同红茶的各自特长，混合成一杯绵长又清香的英式茶。English breakfast tea is a traditional blend of teas originating from Assam, Ceylon and Kenya. It is the most popular blended teas , common in British tea culture.

　　About the Tea

　　如果说英式早餐是近年来才被人所熟知，那么英式下午茶的盛名可就由来已久啦~Afternoon Tea is a tea-related ritual, introduced in Britain in the early 1840s. It evolved as a mini meal to stem the hunger and anticipation of an evening meal at 8pm.

　　这项在1840年左右被“发明”出来的小加餐是为了延缓从午饭到晚餐之间的饥饿，因此下午茶的茶歇也往往有三明治，小面包等略“抗饿”的食品存在。

　　Afternoon Tea is a meal composed of sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam, sweet pastries and cakes. Interestingly, scones were not a common feature of early Afternoon Tea and were only introduced in the twentieth century.

　　这里插一句话，scone，也就是司康，是一种介于蛋糕和饼干之间的点心，虽然一开始并不在下午茶点中，不过日后很快就风靡了起来~而且随着时间不同，下午茶还可以被分为high tea 和 low/ afternoon tea, high tea会在正式餐桌上进行，一般时间为晚上6点左右，而afternoon tea则是三四点钟左右，在小茶几或小桌子上进行的。

　　下午茶不仅代表着英国文化中重要的一部分，其受到现代文化冲击而进行的改变，也可以成为雅思口语中有个有用的备考素材：

　　Many visitors from overseas still imagine that we are a nation where, in the words of the well-known song, 'at half past three, everything stops for tea'. Sadly these days Afternoon Tea is usually only an occasional luxury for the British; a birthday treat in a country house hotel, or a welcome break from a hectic days shopping 'in town'. Luckily the tourist is still able to indulge in a little bit of British tradition for themselves.
